Current Web Design Trends

There are many trends lately in web design that are standing out amongst others. Here are the trends that have been being used during 2014-2015 that have kept sites looking current.

Trends

  • large and/or bold text
  • high-quality background images
  • minimalism
  • more user-friendly design
  • simple animations
  • simple colors
  • more scrolling and less clicking
  • more interactive
  • innovative scrolling
  • looping short video

As for the large and bold text with a high-quality image as the background, Vince Frost’s site is an example of a great site using this trend. Click here to view Vince Frost’s site. The image is in gray scale and because it is the white large and bold text was the perfect choice to let it stand out against the background image.

A site using a simple animation as an intro and the trend of more scrolling and less clicking is Tung’s site. Click here to view Tung’s site. The animation is a great in the way it does not take your attention away from the work on the site. People these days are more accustomed to scrolling than clicking and that is why Tung was smart to have his work laid out on in a way that you have to scroll and view all of the work to get around the site.

Another site representing a trend is Eat Me Ice Cream’s site. Click here to view Eat Me Ice Cream’s Site. These types of videos are meant to tell the world what their business is about. On this particular site the video shows their process of baking and the humor that is behind their business. Other sites may have videos of an artist’s process with imagery of a brush stroke or a musician’s process with imagery of an instrument. It is a visual way to express what kind of work the people behind a site offer.
